Edward Etchells

Edward Etchells is CEO and President of Greens Management LLC, which is based in Florida, USA and incorporates Golfturf.  Greens Management is an agronomic and turfgrass consulting firm that provides environmentally responsible agronomic and turfgrass maintenance consulting to new and established golf venues throughout the world.  The firm specialises in developing and implementing grassing plans, irrigation plans, golf course improvement programmes and pest management programmes.  These concentrate on the most current environmental philosophy of low chemical, fertilizer and water use.

Having started out with university degrees in Business Administration and Turfgrass Management, Ed began his career as a Golf Course Superintendent for such acclaimed clubs as the Old York Road Country Club, Fairways Golf & Country Club and St. David’s Golf Club in Philadelphia.  He also worked AT Brookside Golf & Country Club, in Worthington, Ohio, and was involved from the beginnings of Muirfield Village Golf Club, Nicklaus's premiere tournament course in Dublin, Ohio.

Ed spent 30 years as the head agronomist of Jack Nicklaus's design firm.  He was involved in the development of the construction specifications as well as the agronomics of the courses and consulted on the grow-in of all the hundreds of courses designed by the Nicklaus firm.

Edward has consulted on over 200 clubs worldwide.  Some of the more notable to have hosted major golf tournaments include: the Augusta National Golf Club (Masters Tournament); Glen Abbey Golf Club (Canadian Open); Gut Altentann Golf Club (Austrian Open); Shoal Creek Golf Club (PGA Championship – USGA Amateur); Muirfield Village Golf Club (Memorial Tournament - USGA Jr. Championship, Ryder Cup Matches).  Ed’s expertise in Agronomy include Royal Birkdale (British Open); the Australian Golf Club (Australian Open); Desert Highlands Golf Club (Skin’s Game); Bear Creek Golf Club (Skins Game); Brook Hollow Country Club (Mid Amateur Tournament); Annandale Golf Club (Mid Amateur Tournament); Castle Pine Golf Club (The International Tournament); Onion Creek Golf Club (Legends of Golf); Firestone Country Club (World Series of Golf); PGA European Tour (Volvo Masters, Cannon Masters and Volvo Scandinavian Masters) and the Tokyo Golf Club (Japan Open).

Since retiring from Nicklaus Design in 2001, he has taken the former Golfturf division under his own company and continued with providing Golf Course Maintenance Consulting to numerous courses throughout the world.
