John Meagher
Born in Ireland, John Meagher was educated at the School of Architecture, College of Technology, Dublin and at Helsinki University of Technology, School of Architecture, Finland. He went on to work extensively throughout Ireland, Germany and the USA.
John commenced private practice with Shane de Blacam in 1976, forming de Blacam and Meagher, through which company he has worked on the design of private and residential projects, both new build and restoration; residential complexes, and private homes in France, Ireland, Mexico, Portugal and Spain (Balearic Islands).
Major Public Projects of the Practice
In Dublin, de Blacam and Meagher was Lead Architect in projects such as the Dining Hall and Atrium and the Samuel Beckett Theatre in the University of Dublin, Trinity College; the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business, University College Dublin; the Ryan Academy for Entrepreneurship, Dublin City University; andthe Wooden Building, The Warehouse, Esat Headquarters, Portobello Wharf and the firm’s own Principle Headquarters, all of which are located in the centre of Ireland’s capital city.
Elsewhere in Ireland, major projects conducted by the practice include the Administration Building, the Student Centre, the Library and the Tourism and Catering Studies Building at Cork Institute of Technology; Entrance Landscape, University of Limerick; Lyons Demesne and the restoration of Maynooth Castle in Kildare; and the School of Art, Film and Music and the Education Centre in Galway.
International Awards to the Practice include the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland Gold Medal 2004 for the Library, Cork Institute of Technology; the RIA Silver Medal Housing 2005 for the Wooden Building Temple Bar, Dublin; Winner of the RIAI Silver Medal Housing 2002 for the Castle Street development; the RIAI Silver Medal Conservation 1990 for the Dining Hall and Atrium, University of Dublin, Trinity College; the Europa Nostra Medal of Honour, Silver Medal 1987 for the Dining Hall and Atrium, University of Dublin, Trinity College; the Architectural Association of Ireland, Downes Bronze Medal 1994 for the Beckett Theatre, University of Dublin, Trinity College; and the Europa Nostra Medal of Honour, Bronze Medal 2002 for Lyons Demesne.
As well as internationally accredited qualifications in the discipline of architecture, John was conferred with the status of Grade 1 Conservation Architect 2003 by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland.
John has been a consultant and adviser to PGA European Tour Courses for the past number of years.
